Astoria, Oregon to Crescent City, California
Discover the Scenic Oregon Coast
Your journey begins in Astoria, Oregon, with an inland route leading to the coastal town of Seaside, where Lewis and Clark once marveled at the stunning views (we would agree). From there, the tour follows one of the most picturesque routes imaginable, winding through small coastal communities like Cannon Beach, Tillamook, Florence, Gold Beach, Ferndale, and Bandon.
Each day offers awe-inspiring sights, including Haystack Rock, Heceta Head, Devil’s Punchbowl, Cape Perpetua, Arch Rock, and Natural Bridge. Mother Nature’s artistry is on full display, making every mile memorable.
Rest Day in Crescent City, California
After six days of riding, the route crosses into California, concluding this segment in Crescent City. Take a well-deserved rest day and recharge for the next leg of the adventure.
Crescent City, California to San Francisco, California
Ride Through Towering Redwood Groves
Leaving Crescent City, the route ventures into the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, home to majestic redwood groves like the Avenue of the Giants. These ancient trees, withstanding the test of time, inspire awe with their towering beauty. They have survived floods, fire, drought, and pests for thousands of years.
As the ride continues, the route takes you past the historic town of Weott, once devastated by the flood of the century in 1964.
From Vineyards to Bayside Towns
Farther inland, the tour takes you through the stunning vistas of Sonoma Valley Wine Country, offering gorgeous rides over vineyard-covered hills. On the final day of this segment, riders venture out of wine country and into Sausalito, a charming bayside town filled with cafes and waterfront views, and an incredible view of San Francisco if the fog is in our favor.
The journey culminates with a climb through the Marin Headlands and a triumphant crossing of the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco, where you’ll enjoy another rest day.
San Francisco, California to Costa Mesa, California
Iconic California Landmarks and Coastal Beauty
Departing San Francisco, the route winds through Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row, and the famous Monterey Peninsula, where you’ll experience the breathtaking 17-Mile Drive, Spyglass Hill, and views of Pebble Beach Golf Course. This segment highlights the stunning California coastline, as we head to Santa Cruz.
From Golden Hills to Coastal Towns
As the tour moves inland, you’ll pass through the golden hills of Carmel Valley and some of America’s richest agricultural areas. An overnight stay in the Scandinavian town of Solvang adds a unique cultural touch before the ride follows an old stagecoach route into the mountains and back down to Santa Barbara.
The final days feature scenic routes through Malibu and Santa Monica, ending with picturesque bike paths to Newport Beach and the finish line in Costa Mesa. With its variety of terrain, postcard-worthy views, and daily climbs averaging 3,500 feet, this segment offers a fitting finale to an unforgettable tour.
